************* A word from THE AUTHOR *************
This is in fact the first publicly released version of THE INVADERS.
The reason it is version 1.7 is because it has undergone a few changes
since I first started playing around with the idea of an INVADERS clone.
I have tested this game only on my Personal IBM 486 at home. It runs
fine under Windows 95 or DOS. I have included 2 versions of the game
in the ZIP file because it tends to run faster in DOS, so I saw the need
to convert the game to run at a different speed for Windows.
This game is FREEWARE. You do not have to pay a single CENT for it.
However, I would appreciate it if you sent me a quick e-mail if
you do like the game (Don't worry, I will not use your e-mail address
to send any MAILING back to you. This will only help me to see where
TheInvadersQB.ZIP is being picked up.)
Please feel free to distribute the TheInvadersQB.ZIP file, in which
you extracted this HTML document (and the rest of THE INVADERS files),
anywhere you like, but only on condition that you keep the contained
files together and un-altered. Also, please do not charge any payment
for it. I don't.
************* UnZipping the FILES *************
Please unzip all of the contained files into the same directory. Obviously
you can put the CURSORS and ICONS into another directory if you wish.
I have included a Windows shortcut that you can place on your desktop
so as to run the program at optimum capacity. (note - if you do use the
Windows shortcut file that I have included then remember to change the
shortcut properties to point it to where you saved the files, and also
choose an Icon to display at the same time.)
************* The Controls *************
Left - 4 (on numeric keypad)
Right - 6 (on numeric keypad)
Fire - 8 (on numeric keypad)
PAUSE/QUIT - F1
CHEAT Menu - F4
************* Playing the Game *************
Click on the Windows shortcut file to play the game under Windows 95.
Type - INVADER.exe [RETURN]
in the directory you saved it to, to play it in DOS.
The INVADERS start at the top of the screen and slowly make their way down
towards your base (and total Earth domination.) Shoot some of the INVADERS
and they decide to pick up speed.
Once you've destroyed the entire wave of INVADERS they decide to send more.
This time starting from a lower orbit.
Occasionally the INVADERS mother ship decides to cross above the advancing
fleet to check upon the progress. Try to see if you can hit this ship to
get BONUS MYSTERY POINTS.
Unfortunately the INVADERS have a ton of ships,
and Mother Ships, to keep them going for quite a while. So see how many
ships you can destroy before they TAKE OVER.
You start with 4 BASES, 1 active and 3 in reserve. You will
however be awarded with a BONUS BASE at 5000 points, and then at 15000
points (note - if you already have 4 BASES at these markers then you will
not be awarded the BONUS BASE.)
************* Signing OFF *************
I think this is all you need to know before you start playing the Game.
I hope you enjoy it.
