First Steps with Koma-Mail:

Koma-Mail is an eMail-Client who does not require an installation, so it runs also from an USB-Stick.
If is Koma-Mail upx packed it can even run from a disk!

When you start Koma-Mail for the first time, you can create a Shortcut in the first menu.
Additionally you can register Koma-Mail as your standard-client ("Use Koma-Mail as default client").
Through that shortcuts to eMail-adresses will be dealed with in Koma-Mail.

These settings can also later on be made under Options->Other Options.

 

Options

Make an eMail-Account:

Select in the main-menu Options->Options.
Give the account a name under"Account Name".
Beneath you can choose a folder where the received eMails shall be saved in.
Now you fill in your eMail-Adress and your name.

In case your server needs an authentificated login please activate it!

Under Options-> Other Options you can choose your standard-account which will be selected automatically
every time you want to write a new eMail.

 

To keep your database clean:

If you want to "clean up" your database automatically, go to Options->Database.

There are the settings which automatically and completely delete eMails that are older than x days.
Through that your database does not grow to eternity.

First you choose a folder which shall be checked out by every start. Beneath that you can give in after how many days after you got them
they can be deleted completely.

 

Reply, Signature, ...

Under Options->Answer you can decide if you want a signature and how it should be.
To have the opportunity of having a signature mark the box next to it.

When you answer an eMail and you always want the whole text of the received eMail beneath your answer mark the box next to "quote whole eMail".

 

Spam-Filter:

If you do not want to receive an eMail in your selected folder, for example a newsletter, add it to your Spamlist.

To do that either type in the address under Options->Spam-Filter or mark the eMail with the rightclick of your mouse and select
"Add to Spamlist".

Now all eMails from this address will be moved to the folder Spam.

 

Templates:

With templates you do not have to write the same eMail over and over again.

To make a template go under Options->Templates. Now you can write in the editor to make your templates.
You can select the template in the eMail-window in the Combo-Box and paste it through clicking on "Add Template".

Connections:

If Koma-Mail is supposed to log itself in automatically at Auto-Check-Mail, go to Options->Connections, mark the box
and select the internet-connection.

Username/ID and password of the selected connection have to be saved for that.

 

No New-eMail-Symbol for Spam-Mails

You get distracted through unimported messages?

If yes, you can make the setting under Options->New Mail Options that certain folders get ignored when the get new eMails.

 

Dealing with Koma-Mail

Search:

Under Edit the eMail-traffic from your eMail-Accounts can be shown.

If you want to see the eMail-Traffic of a person, rightclick on the message and select
"show eMail-traffic from that contact".

 

Contacts:

You can manage your contacts under Options->Contacts.

If you want to add a contact in an eMail, press "To", "Cc:" or "BCc:".

 

Signature:

For each eMail-Account an own signature can be set.
To add one in an eMail, press "Signature".

 

Groups:

To create eMail groups go to Options->Groups.
Enter all eMail-Addresses for a group, seperated by a semicolon and a space.

In the editor you can choose the group you want to send an eMail to.

 

Import:

Koma-Mail can import addressbooks via csv, ldi and wab.

Ldi is the Netscape-Format and at first you have to export it.

Wab is the Standard Outlook-Format and is saved in Documents and Settings in the userfolder und application-settings in
the addressbook folder.

The csv Import is not so comfortable. At first you have to open the Csv-file and then you have enter the fitting number for each field.
For example is the name on the fourth place. Then choose under Name 4, ...

 

Misc

Koma-Mail is a freeware and supports POP3/SMTP/IMAP andWebDav. The WebDav support is till now in development!
WebDav runs stable, but I would not use the WebDav support with a buissnes-Account.
Koma-Mail does not delete WebDav eMails, so you can read them in the Trash-Folder.
